gnome-core software package provides GNOME Desktop Environment -- essential components, you can install in your Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnome-core
gnome-core is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnome-core package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-core *
You will get with gnome-core package name, version, architecture and description in a table
