fonts-symbola software package provides symbolic font providing emoji characters from Unicode 7.0, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fonts-symbola
fonts-symbola is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fonts-symbola package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fonts-symbola *
You will get with fonts-symbola package name, version, architecture and description in a table
