libjs-jquery-timer software package provides setTimeout equivalent with more options for jquery, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libjs-jquery-timer
libjs-jquery-timer is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libjs-jquery-timer package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libjs-jquery-timer *
You will get with libjs-jquery-timer package name, version, architecture and description in a table
