libgmt5 software package provides Generic Mapping Tools Library, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libgmt5
libgmt5 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libgmt5 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libgmt5 *
You will get with libgmt5 package name, version, architecture and description in a table
