libdmtx-dev software package provides Data Matrix barcodes (development files and static libraries), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libdmtx-dev
libdmtx-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libdmtx-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libdmtx-dev *
You will get with libdmtx-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
