kafkacat software package provides generic producer and consumer for Apache Kafka, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install kafkacat
kafkacat is installed in your system.
Make ensure the kafkacat package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep kafkacat *
You will get with kafkacat package name, version, architecture and description in a table
