initramfs-tools software package provides generic modular initramfs generator (automation), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install initramfs-tools
initramfs-tools is installed in your system.
Make ensure the initramfs-tools package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep initramfs-tools *
You will get with initramfs-tools package name, version, architecture and description in a table
