hoichess software package provides xboard compatible chess engine to play chess with, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install hoichess
hoichess is installed in your system.
Make ensure the hoichess package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep hoichess *
You will get with hoichess package name, version, architecture and description in a table
