gpsbabel software package provides GPS file conversion plus transfer to/from GPS units, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gpsbabel
gpsbabel is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gpsbabel package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gpsbabel *
You will get with gpsbabel package name, version, architecture and description in a table
