gnome-mplayer software package provides GTK+ interface for MPlayer, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnome-mplayer
gnome-mplayer is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnome-mplayer package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-mplayer *
You will get with gnome-mplayer package name, version, architecture and description in a table
