gnome-gmail software package provides support for Gmail as the preferred email application in GNOME, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnome-gmail
gnome-gmail is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnome-gmail package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-gmail *
You will get with gnome-gmail package name, version, architecture and description in a table
