gnome-common software package provides common scripts and macros to develop with GNOME, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnome-common
gnome-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnome-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-common *
You will get with gnome-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
