gmtp software package provides simple file transfer program for MTP based devices, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gmtp
gmtp is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gmtp package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gmtp *
You will get with gmtp package name, version, architecture and description in a table
