freetds-dev software package provides MS SQL and Sybase client library (static libs and headers), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install freetds-dev
freetds-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the freetds-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep freetds-dev *
You will get with freetds-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
