fonts-freefont-ttf software package provides Freefont Serif, Sans and Mono Truetype fonts, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fonts-freefont-ttf
fonts-freefont-ttf is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fonts-freefont-ttf package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fonts-freefont-ttf *
You will get with fonts-freefont-ttf package name, version, architecture and description in a table
