fonts-fantasque-sans software package provides monospaced font variant for programmers, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fonts-fantasque-sans
fonts-fantasque-sans is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fonts-fantasque-sans package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fonts-fantasque-sans *
You will get with fonts-fantasque-sans package name, version, architecture and description in a table
