fontforge-nox software package provides font editor - non-X version, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fontforge-nox
fontforge-nox is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fontforge-nox package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fontforge-nox *
You will get with fontforge-nox package name, version, architecture and description in a table
