fairymax software package provides xboard compatible chess and chess-variant engine, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fairymax
fairymax is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fairymax package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fairymax *
You will get with fairymax package name, version, architecture and description in a table
