fail2ban software package provides ban hosts that cause multiple authentication errors, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fail2ban
fail2ban is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fail2ban package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fail2ban *
You will get with fail2ban package name, version, architecture and description in a table
