ethdetect software package provides Detect network hardware and load kernel drivers for it, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install ethdetect
ethdetect is installed in your system.
Make ensure the ethdetect package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep ethdetect *
You will get with ethdetect package name, version, architecture and description in a table
