embassy-phylip software package provides EMBOSS conversions of the programs in the phylip package, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install embassy-phylip
embassy-phylip is installed in your system.
Make ensure the embassy-phylip package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep embassy-phylip *
You will get with embassy-phylip package name, version, architecture and description in a table
