emacs24-common software package provides GNU Emacs editors shared, architecture independent infrastructure, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install emacs24-common
emacs24-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the emacs24-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep emacs24-common *
You will get with emacs24-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
