emacs-window-layout software package provides window layout manager for emacs, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install emacs-window-layout
emacs-window-layout is installed in your system.
Make ensure the emacs-window-layout package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep emacs-window-layout *
You will get with emacs-window-layout package name, version, architecture and description in a table
