dep11-tools software package provides Tools to generate and validate DEP-11 AppStream metadata, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install dep11-tools
dep11-tools is installed in your system.
Make ensure the dep11-tools package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep dep11-tools *
You will get with dep11-tools package name, version, architecture and description in a table
