darkplaces software package provides Game engine for Quake and similar 3D first person shooter games, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install darkplaces
darkplaces is installed in your system.
Make ensure the darkplaces package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep darkplaces *
You will get with darkplaces package name, version, architecture and description in a table
