console-common software package provides basic infrastructure for text console configuration, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install console-common
console-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the console-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep console-common *
You will get with console-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
