python-serial software package provides pyserial - module encapsulating access for the serial port, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install python-serial
python-serial is installed in your system.
Make ensure the python-serial package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep python-serial *
You will get with python-serial package name, version, architecture and description in a table
