python-pyfits software package provides Python module for reading, writing, and manipulating FITS files, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install python-pyfits
python-pyfits is installed in your system.
Make ensure the python-pyfits package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep python-pyfits *
You will get with python-pyfits package name, version, architecture and description in a table
