picard-tools software package provides Command line tools to manipulate SAM and BAM files, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install picard-tools
picard-tools is installed in your system.
Make ensure the picard-tools package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep picard-tools *
You will get with picard-tools package name, version, architecture and description in a table
