overlayroot software package provides use an overlayfs on top of a read-only root filesystem, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install overlayroot
overlayroot is installed in your system.
Make ensure the overlayroot package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep overlayroot *
You will get with overlayroot package name, version, architecture and description in a table
