$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools-dbg 

open-vm-tools-dbg is installed in your system.

Make ensure the open-vm-tools-dbg package were installed using the commands given below,

$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep open-vm-tools-dbg *

You will get with open-vm-tools-dbg package name, version, architecture and description in a table

open-vm-tools-dbg package basic information:
