nvidia-common software package provides transitional package for ubuntu-drivers-common, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install nvidia-common
nvidia-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the nvidia-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep nvidia-common *
You will get with nvidia-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
