notify-osd software package provides daemon that displays passive pop-up notifications, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install notify-osd
notify-osd is installed in your system.
Make ensure the notify-osd package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep notify-osd *
You will get with notify-osd package name, version, architecture and description in a table
