mariadb-server software package provides MariaDB database server (metapackage depending on the latest version), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mariadb-server
mariadb-server is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mariadb-server package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mariadb-server *
You will get with mariadb-server package name, version, architecture and description in a table
