libx264-dev software package provides development files for libx264, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libx264-dev
libx264-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libx264-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libx264-dev *
You will get with libx264-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
