libsphinxclient-dev software package provides Fast standalone full-text SQL search engine - Client library, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libsphinxclient-dev
libsphinxclient-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libsphinxclient-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libsphinxclient-dev *
You will get with libsphinxclient-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
