libmatio2 software package provides Library to read and write Matlab MAT files, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libmatio2
libmatio2 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libmatio2 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libmatio2 *
You will get with libmatio2 package name, version, architecture and description in a table
