libmapscript-ruby1.8 software package provides Transitional package from libmapscript-ruby1.8 to ruby-mapscript, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libmapscript-ruby1.8
libmapscript-ruby1.8 is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libmapscript-ruby1.8 package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libmapscript-ruby1.8 *
