libcupt-common software package provides alternative front-end for dpkg -- runtime library (support files), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install libcupt-common
libcupt-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the libcupt-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep libcupt-common *
You will get with libcupt-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
