imsniff software package provides Simple program to log Instant Messaging activity on the network, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install imsniff
imsniff is installed in your system.
Make ensure the imsniff package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep imsniff *
You will get with imsniff package name, version, architecture and description in a table
