git-annex software package provides manage files with git, without checking their contents into git, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install git-annex
git-annex is installed in your system.
Make ensure the git-annex package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep git-annex *
You will get with git-annex package name, version, architecture and description in a table
