gdebi-core software package provides simple tool to install deb files, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gdebi-core
gdebi-core is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gdebi-core package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gdebi-core *
You will get with gdebi-core package name, version, architecture and description in a table
