isc-dhcp-dev software package provides API for accessing and modifying the DHCP server and client state, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install isc-dhcp-dev
isc-dhcp-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the isc-dhcp-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep isc-dhcp-dev *
You will get with isc-dhcp-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
