fgetty software package provides very small, efficient, console-only getty and login, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fgetty
fgetty is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fgetty package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fgetty *
You will get with fgetty package name, version, architecture and description in a table
