ec2-init software package provides package renamed -> cloud-init, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install ec2-init
ec2-init is installed in your system.
Make ensure the ec2-init package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep ec2-init *
You will get with ec2-init package name, version, architecture and description in a table
