gedit-common software package provides official text editor of the GNOME desktop environment (support files), you can install in your Debian 9 (Stretch) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gedit-common
gedit-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gedit-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gedit-common *
You will get with gedit-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
