liblinux-distribution-packages software package provides list all packages on various Linux distributions, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install liblinux-distribution-packages
liblinux-distribution-packages is installed in your system.
Make ensure the liblinux-distribution-packages package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep liblinux-distribution-packages*
You will get with liblinux-distribution-packages package name, version, architecture and description in a table
