irc software package provides virtual package provided by ircii, epic5, scrollz, epic4, konversation, xchat, hexchat, hexchat-common, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install irc
irc is installed in your system.
Make ensure the irc package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep irc*
You will get with irc package name, version, architecture and description in a table
