gis-devel software package provides Geographic Information Systems (GIS) development, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gis-devel
gis-devel is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gis-devel package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gis-devel *
You will get with gis-devel package name, version, architecture and description in a table
