gettext-base software package provides GNU Internationalization utilities for the base system, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gettext-base
gettext-base is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gettext-base package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gettext-base *
You will get with gettext-base package name, version, architecture and description in a table
